AbCellera is breaking the barriers of conventional drug development to propel antibody-based medicines from target to clinic. We are a team of scientists, engineers, creatives, and business professionals who believe that advancing science enhances lives. We have developed technologies to unlock high-value drug targets, including antibody-drug conjugates and T-cell engagers for cancer, and complex transmembrane proteins for indications such as metabolic and endocrine conditions, pain, and autoimmunity.
We are looking for a motivated and talented individual currently pursuing a BSc or MSc degree in Biological Sciences or another relevant field to join our Upstream Process Development team as a co-op or intern for an 8 month term, starting in May 2025. You will learn about mammalian cell growth and metabolism and leverage different bioreactors systems to maximize therapeutic antibody production in a scalable way to commercial manufacturing. Your role will contribute to optimize AbCellera Process Development platform to further refine an industry leading mammalian cell culture process.
While in this on-site position, based in beautiful Vancouver, you will receive guidance and support from experienced team members within the Upstream Process Development team. The co-op is designed to offer exposure to real-world projects and the opportunity to contribute to the advancement of antibody-based medicines from target to clinic within Canada.
How you might spend your days
- Gaining hands-on experience on aseptic cell culture techniques as well as cell culture and protein expression characterization techniques
- Executing screening experiments to understand cell culture metabolic needs and optimize cell culture parameters accordingly
- Developing and understanding of bioprocess engineering principles for scale-up cell culture towards manufacturing
- Generating data and assisting in their collection and analysis of experimental results
- Contribute to the design, optimization, and troubleshooting of cell culture processes
- Developing scientific communication skills by presenting findings to Upstream Process Development colleagues and other Process Development functions
- Gaining insights into the Biopharmaceutical Industry and the challenges and strategies associated with therapeutic antibody production
We'd love to hear from you if
- You have a strong interest in bioprocessing, bioengineering, and cell culture techniques
- You are eager to explore industry and get hands-on experience in the production of biologic therapeutics
- You are enrolled in a BSc or MSc program in Chemical Engineering, Biological Engineering, Biotechnology, Bioprocessing, or a related field
- You have acquired foundational laboratory skills such as pipetting and aseptic cell culture technique; basic understanding of bioreactors would be considered a plus
- You have a passion for science, operational excellence, and innovation
- You have strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- You have good written and verbal communication skills and ability to present scientific information clearly
- You have the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment
