AbCellera is breaking the barriers of conventional drug development to propel antibody-based medicines from target to clinic. We are a team of scientists, engineers, creatives, and business professionals who believe that advancing science enhances lives. We have developed technologies to unlock high-value drug targets, including antibody-drug conjugates and T-cell engagers for cancer, and complex transmembrane proteins for indications such as metabolic and endocrine conditions, pain, and autoimmunity.

We are looking for a highly motivated scientist with demonstrated hands-on laboratory experience relevant to the characterization of antibodies and/or other therapeutic proteins using mass spectrometry and other analytical techniques, to join our multidisciplinary team. You are a motivated and self-directed individual, a team-player who thrives in a fast-paced work environment with multiple competing priorities, and above all, you want to learn and grow with us. This is an exciting opportunity to join one of Canada’s fastest growing biotechs and to contribute to our cutting-edge research on monoclonal antibody characterization supporting the discovery of novel monoclonal antibodies for therapeutic use.

How you might spend your days:

  • Designing, planning and executing experiments, either independently or in collaboration with your teammates
  • Performing mass spectrometry analysis of antibodies and other therapeutic proteins, including intact mass, peptide mapping, glycan profile, and other post-translational modification
  • Performing detailed protein structural interrogation, including sequence confirmation, sequence variant identification, disulfide mapping, or chemical modifications in support of batch comparison, forced degradation and developability analysis
  • Developing and performing analytical assays for protein characterization, including UPLC, light scattering, CE-SDS, cIEF
  • Training and mentoring members of a dynamic team
  • Solving problems at a high level
  • Liaising with partners and communicating project updates and deliverables
  • Developing and implementing standard operating procedures
  • Organizing, supporting, and collaborating with team members to meet project deliverables and timelines

We'd love to hear from you if:

  • You have demonstrated expertise in protein mass spectrometry analysis, including intact mass and peptide mapping assays for identifying and quantifying post translational modifications on antibodies. A broader knowledge of mass spectrometry-based analysis of other types of purified proteins is also highly desirable.
  • You have a PhD in Biochemistry, Structural biology or related field, or MSc with 5+ years in an academic or industry wet lab environment with emphasis on mass spectrometry
  • You think critically, are curious, and want to explore new technologies and integrate automation to improve the antibody characterization workflow and process
  • You have demonstrated experience in characterization of proteins using analytical chromatography, light scattering, thermal denaturation or other analytical or biophysical techniques; experience with high throughput characterization technologies would be an advantage
  • You have hands on experience with  sample preparation for mass spectrometry analysis
  • You are a creative problem solver and fast learner who believes in team work to tackle the most challenging scientific problems
  • You have great interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively as a member of cross-functional teamYou are self-motivated and have the initiative and drive to meet goals under tight project timelines
  • You have impeccable attention to detail, with the ability to analyze and interpret large datasets

What we offer:

AbCellera’s hiring range for this role is CAD $75,200 - $94,000 annually, commensurate with your education and job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition to base salary, we offer equity, annual bonus dependent on team and company performance, and a 6% (non-match) RRSP contribution.

You will have a CAD $1,500 annual Active Lifestyle Allowance, annual vacation, professional development opportunities, and comprehensive health benefits. Scientific and technical mentorship is a priority. And you’ll find we prioritize teams and social groups to build community and connections across AbCellera.

About AbCellera:
