We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented AbCellerite for the role of Technician in Upstream Process Development. This role will be integral in the setup, operation, and maintenance of bioreactors, contributing to the development and optimization of cell culture processes within AbCellera. This AbCellerite will develop hands-on experience with different bioreactor systems while we establish AbCellera’s cell culture capabilities. This AbCellerite will be joining a highly collaborative and supportive team. Full training will be provided.

How you might spend your days

  • Setting up and operating 2L and 10L bioreactors, ensuring optimal conditions for cell culture processes
  • Supporting the setup and execution of ambr15 and ambr250 automated high-throughput mini-bioreactor systems
  • Monitoring and maintaining bioreactor conditions, including pH, temperature, dissolved oxygen, and agitation rates
  • Performing routine sampling and analysis of cell culture parameters to ensure consistency and quality
  • Collaborating with senior scientists and engineers to troubleshoot and optimize bioprocesses
  • Maintaining accurate and detailed records of experimental procedures, results, and observations using Benchling)
  • Preparing media, buffers, and other solutions required for cell culture experiments
  • Performing equipment calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting to ensure reliable operation
  • Participating in process development meetings and contributing to discussions on process improvements
  • Ensuring compliance with all safety and quality standards in the laboratory environment

We’d love to hear from you, if

  • You have experience of monitoring and maintaining mammalian cell cultures including good aseptic technique
  • You have demonstrated strong technical skills and a keen eye for detail
  • You are excited to learn about setting up and running bioreactor systems 
  • You have a degree or diploma in Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field
  • You enjoy working collaboratively in a fast-paced and dynamic team environment
  • You have a passion for excellent documentation and organizational skills, with the ability to maintain detailed and accurate records
  • You are comfortable with basic laboratory techniques and equipment maintenance
  • You have strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to troubleshooting
  • You are committed to maintaining a safe and compliant laboratory environment

What we offer

AbCellera’s hiring range for this role is CAD $53,900 - $67,300 annually, commensurate with your education and job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition to base salary, we offer equity, an annual bonus dependent on team and company performance, and a 6% (non-match) RRSP contribution.
