We are looking for a Process Engineer to join our Technical Operations team. In this role, based in beautiful Vancouver, you will serve as the plant/process engineer and system owner for Downstream Process Equipment in a state-of-the-art single use biopharmaceutical manufacturing facility. You will be responsible for supporting the equipment and processes for Antibody Purification (chromatography, viral filtration and product concentration skids). You will also support the start up of a pilot plant facility and utilities to meet an audacious goal: to go from discovery to fill-finish in a year. 

How you might spend your days

  • Providing and applying process engineering principles in the design, specification, construction, startup, and validation of process equipment and systems for the new facility
  • Providing technical support for equipment in manufacturing, as second level support and as the subject matter expert (SME) of equipment
  • Supporting new product introductions or new technology introductions by performing engineering assessments, implementing equipment modifications, and supporting engineering runs in support with MSAT
  • Performing and/or supporting process equipment factory and site acceptance tests (FAT/SAT), installation, commissioning, debugging, and optimization
  • Helping to create and maintain specifications (design/functional/system) and drawings (P&ID/layout)
  • Leading and implementing improvement efforts, including cycle time reduction, efficiency gains, and yield enhancement opportunities
  • Identifying and developing business cases to support, and/or leading implementation of engineering-based improvements or upgrades to the equipment or facility systems 
  • Creating and updating written Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) related to project assignments and providing training to your maintenance and manufacturing teammates

We’d love to hear from you if

  • You have a bachelor’s degree and 5 years of industry experience or master’s degree and 2 years of experience with cGMP procedures and engineering practices on pharmaceutical/biotech production processes, facilities, and equipment
  • You have hands-on experience with manufacturing process equipment, including advanced problem solving, reliability, performance improvements and design optimization
  • You have direct experience in equipment engineering and problem solving with chromatography columns and systems, filtration and/or ultrafiltration/diafiltration systems as well as single use technology
  • You have experience with change control, nonconformance, corrective and preventative actions, and validation practices
  • You have experience supporting design and startup engineering directly related to bulk biopharmaceutical production, including process equipment and facilities design, procurement, construction, startup, and validation
  • You are strongly self-motivated and able to identify project needs with follow up to build and implement solutions
  • You are passionate about being a part of a dynamic team with ambitious t goals
  • You have a bias towards innovation over industry standards

What we offer

AbCellera’s hiring range for this role is CAD $98,500 - $123,100 annually, commensurate with your education and job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition to base salary, we offer equity, annual bonus dependent on team and company performance, and a 6% (non-match) RRSP contribution.
